General Studies, Computer Information Systems Specialization

Degree:  Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies with a Specialization in Computer Information Systems

Length:  Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose:  The Associates of Arts and Sciences Degree Program in General Studies – Computer Information Systems Specialization is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program with a major in information systems, computer science or a related discipline. The program provides a strong general education background and the basics of software design and the fundamentals of information security.

Program Requirements:  In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, completion of a General Studies program requires competency in English and Math – MDE 10 as demonstrated through direct enrollment and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required MDE units or equivalent. Students are urged to become acquainted with the requirements of the major department in the college or university to which transfer is contemplated and also to consult with the Student Services Office of the community college in planning their program and selecting electives. Note the guaranteed admission and articulation agreements referenced in the Admissions section apply only to students who complete the Associate Degree.
