Degree: Associate of Arts and Sciences in Education

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Education is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree preparing them to teach at the elementary or middle-school levels.

Program Requirements: The Associate of Arts and Sciences program in Education is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program that leads to teacher licensure. This program requires competency in English and Math – MDE 10 as demonstrated through direct enrollment and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required EDE and/or MDE units or the equivalent. It is designed to meet General Education requirements for transfer to a 4-year college or university. Students are urged to become acquainted with the requirements of the teacher education program at the college or university to which transfer is contemplated and to regularly consult with his/her community college advisor in planning their program and selecting electives. Students should successfully complete all community college courses meeting the grade requirement of “C.” Note the guaranteed admission and articulation agreements referenced in the Admissions  section apply only to students who complete the Associate Degree.
