Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Arts and Sciences Science- Specialization in Engineering is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree in Engineering. By selecting appropriate electives, students should be able to complete the lower division requirements for a variety of baccalaureate majors.

In order to be assured that courses transfer to meet lower division requirements at the specific institution the student plans to transfer to and the major anticipated, students should consult their academic advisor to schedule their courses. Students are encouraged to investigate guaranteed admission agreements (GAA), available for many colleges and universities in Virginia, and contact their selected college’s admissions office. Counselors and academic advisors can assist with locating these resources.

Program Requirements: In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, entry into the Science Specialization in Engineering program requires competency in English and Math Essentials MTE 1-9 as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required MTE units or equivalent.

²Three credits of transfer History electives are required and can be chosen from HIS 101 , HIS 102 , HIS 111 , HIS 112 , HIS 121 , HIS 122 .

⁴Students may choose a health, physical education, or recreation course that promotes physical and emotional well-being.

⁵Students may choose from the Transfer Engineering/Science Courses. The following are suggested Engineering/Science electives for specific majors: Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering: EGR 246 Mechanics of Materials ; Chemical Engineering: • CHM 112 College Chemistry II or EGR 246 Mechanics of Materials or CHM 241 /CHM 245 - Organic Chemistry I Organic Chemistry Laboratory I 5 CR; MTH 261 or higher to meet the prerequisite for MTH 263 .Students should contact their academic advisor to determine the best option for this elective.

⁶Students may choose from CSC 201 , ITP 120 , ITP 134, or a computer programming course as approved by the division.
