Associate of Arts & Sciences: General Studies, Specialization in Health Sciences
Purpose:
The purpose of the Specialization in Health Sciences is to prepare students to transfer to four-year baccalaureate degree programs in healthcare and health sciences. Through instruction, students develop skills and knowledge in Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and several health related courses.
Occupational Objectives:
Employment opportunities for graduates in the Health Sciences specialization include staff positions in hospitals, medical centers, and other entry level, non-licensure healthcare fields. Graduates may transfer to a four-year college or university for bachelor degrees in such fields such as exercise science, health promotion, allied health, and health sciences.
Program Requirements:
In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, completion of General Studies program requires competency in English and Math – MDE 10 as demonstrated through direct enrollment and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required EDE and/or MDE units or the equivalent. Students are urged to become acquainted with the requirements of the major department in the college or university to which transfer is contemplated, and also to consult with the Student Services Office of the community college in planning their program and selecting electives. Note the guaranteed admission and articulation agreements referenced in the Admissions section apply only to students who complete the Associate Degree.
