Science, Specialization in Engineering, AA&S

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Arts and Sciences Science- Specialization in Engineering is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree in Engineering. By selecting appropriate electives, students should be able to complete the lower division requirements for a variety of baccalaureate majors.

In order to be assured that courses transfer to meet lower division requirements at the specific institution the student plans to transfer to and the major anticipated, students should consult their academic advisor to schedule their courses. Students are encouraged to investigate guaranteed admission agreements (GAA), available for many colleges and universities in Virginia, and contact their selected college’s admissions office. Counselors and academic advisors can assist with locating these resources.

Program Requirements: In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, entry into the Science Specialization in Engineering program requires competency in English and Math Essentials MTE 1-9 as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required MTE units or equivalent.

3Humanities Electives:  ART 101 , CST 151 , HUM 100 , HUM 260 , PHI 101  

4Health or PED Electives:  HLT 116  , PED 107  , PED 109  , PED 111  , PED 147  

5Engineering/S.T.E.M. Elective:  CHM 112 , MTH 161  

MTH 161   or higher to meet the prerequisite for MTH 263  

Students should contact their academic advisor to determine the best option for this elective.

6CSC 201 , ITP 120 , ITP 134 , or a computer programming course as approved by the division.

NOTE: Transfer students are advised to consider four-year college and university requirements in making their choices.
