Degree: Career Studies Certificate Legal Assisting

Length: This career studies certificate is a one semester certificate.

Purpose: This program is designed to prepare individuals for an entry-level position as a Legal Assistant. In addition, it is designed to enhance the professional qualifications of those persons already employed as Legal Secretaries.

Occupational Objectives: To become a Legal Assistant, Legal Secretary.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Career Studies Certificate program is based upon the general requirements for admission to the college.

First Semester

AST 101 Keyboarding I 3 credits *
AST 107 Editing/Proofreading Skills 3 credits
ENG 111 College Composition I 3 credits
LGL 110 Introduction to the Law and the Paralegal 3 credits **
LGL 236 Elder Law 3 credits

Second Semester

AST 236 Specialized Software Applications (Excel) 3 credits
LGL 126 Legal Writing 3 credits

*Students who possess keyboarding skills may petition for advanced placement with Credit by Examination.
