Degree: Career Studies Certificate Phlebotomy
Length: This career studies certificate is a two semester certificate.
Purpose: The Phlebotomy program is designed to prepare and train students to obtain blood from patients in a clinical setting. Students will obtain a broad knowledge of phlebotomy practice and be skilled in the techniques required to safely obtain blood specimens through venipuncture and properly dispose of biohazardous material related to specimen collection. Students will also learn about the data entry processes involved with phlebotomy, including order entry, specimen processing and documentation. Program graduates will be eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology- Board of Certification, Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) examination to become a certified phlebotomist.
Occupational Objectives: Phlebotomists work in hospitals, medical group practices, neighborhood health centers, public health facilities, veteran’s hospitals, commercial laboratories, and insurance companies.
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Career Studies Certificate program is based upon the general requirements for admission to the college.
