Science, Major in Mathematics, AS


Degree: Associate of Science in Science, Major in Mathematics

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Science in Science, Major in Mathematics is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program with a major in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics. This program may also be suitable for students pursing baccalaureate degrees in physics, chemistry, or computer science. The Associate of Science in Science, Major in Mathematics is not affiliated with Transfer Virginia common curriculum and is unique to WCC.

Program Requirements: All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement. Based on this review, students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.

Students are encouraged to become acquainted with the requirements of the college or university to which she or he is considering for transfer and to regularly consult with his/her community college advisor in planning their program and selecting electives. Students should successfully complete all community college courses meeting the grade requirement of “C”.

The following list is a suggested sequence in which students may plan their class schedules to ensure graduation in two years.

7Courses may be chosen from MTH 167 , MTH 245 , ITP 120 , CSC 221 , or a mathematics or computer programming course as approved by the division.

8Orientation Electives:  SDV 100 , SDV 101

In addition, they should confirm with the college or university to which they plan to transfer that they will receive credit at the four-year institution.
