Degree: Associate of Arts and Sciences with a major in Education

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree in Education is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree preparing them to teach at the elementary or middle-school levels.

Admission Requirements: In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, entry into the Education program requires competency in English and Math Essentials MTE 1-5

Program Requirements: The Associate of Arts and Sciences program in Education is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program that leads to teacher licensure. This program requires competency in English and Math Essentials MTE 1-5 as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required MTE units or equivalent. It is designed to meet General Education requirements for transfer to a 4-year college or university. Students are urged to become acquainted with the requirements of the teacher education program at the college or university to which transfer is contemplated and to regularly consult with his/her community college advisor in planning their program and selecting electives. Students should successfully complete all community college courses meeting the grade requirement of “C.” Note the guaranteed admission and articulation agreements referenced on Admissions  apply only to students who complete the Associate Degree.

The following list is a suggested sequence in which students may plan their class schedules to ensure graduation in two years.

1Students are advised to take either MTH 151  & MTH 152  or MTH 157 . Math may be chosen from Math General Electives  in the WCC Catalog.

2Courses may be chosen from the following: BIO 101 , BIO 102  or CHM 111 , CHM 112 . Courses may be selected from Science General Electives  in the WCC catalog. Check with WCC advisor or transfer intuition advisor.

3Courses may be chosen from the Transfer Humanities Electives . ART 101  and/or PHI 101  or PHI 220  recommended. Check with WCC advisor or transfer institution advisor.

4Courses may be chosen from the Literature Transfer Electives .

5Transfer courses may be chosen from the Transfer Electives . For General Education certificate completion, select from Humanities General Electives . Check with WCC advisor or transfer institution advisor.

*Requirements of four-year institutions may vary. Students should consult a counselor or their academic advisor to select electives that will satisfy baccalaureate major requirements. In addition, they should confirm with the college or university to which they plan to transfer that they will receive credit at the four-year institution.
