Liberal Arts, AA&S


Degree: Associate of Arts and Sciences with a major in Liberal Arts

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree program in Liberal Arts is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program, usually Bachelor of Arts degree, in the liberal arts or social sciences.

Program Requirements: In addition to the admission requirements established for the college, completion of General Studies program requires competency in English and Math Essentials MTE 1-5 as demonstrated through the placement and diagnostic tests, or by satisfactorily completing the required MTE units or equivalent. Students are urged to become acquainted with the requirements of the major department in the college or university to which transfer is contemplated and also to consult with the Student Services Office of the community college in planning their program and selecting electives. Note the guaranteed admission and articulation agreements referenced on Admissions  apply only to students who complete the Associate Degree.

The following list is a suggested sequence in which students may plan their class schedules to ensure graduation in two years.

1Students may substitute a higher level math. Courses may be chosen from the Math General Electives .

2Transfer Electives may be chosen from Transfer Electives  in WCC catalog. Suggested course: CST 151  Foreign language may be used as transfer elective. Check with WCC advisor or transfer institution advisor.

3Suggested courses: PHI 220  and HUM 260 . Courses may be selected from Humanities general electives in WCC catalog, 200 level. Check with WCC advisor or transfer institution advisor.

4Six credits of transfer Literature electives are required and can be chosen from ENG 241 , ENG 242 , ENG 243 , ENG 244 .

5HLT 143 does not meet the HLT/PED degree requirement.

6Suggested courses: BIO 101 ,BIO 102  or CHM 111 , CHM 112 . Courses may be selected from the Science General Electives  in the WCC catalog. Check with WCC advisor or transfer institution advisor.
