Science, Computer Science Specialization, AA&S

Degree: Associate of Arts and Sciences in Science with a Specialization in Computer Science.

Length: Four-semester (two-year) program

Purpose: The Associates of Arts and Sciences in Science with a specialization in Computer Science is a statewide common curriculum designed primarily for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

Transfer Virginia: This program is aligned with the Transfer Virginia Computer Science common curriculum. Students are strongly encouraged to consult their academic advisor and review program options using the Transfer Virginia Portal, https://www.transfervirginia.org.

Program Requirements: All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement. Based on this review, students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.

Students are encouraged to become acquainted with the requirements of the college or university to which she or he is considering for transfer and to regularly consult with his/her community college advisor in planning their program and selecting electives. Students should successfully complete all community college courses meeting the grade requirement of “C”.

The following list is a suggested sequence in which students may plan their class schedules to ensure graduation in two years.

 1 History Electives:  HIS 101 , HIS 102 HIS 121 , HIS 122  

Humanities Electives:  ART 101 CST 151 , HUM 201 MUS 121 , PHI 100  , PHI 220 REL 230  

PHI 220 preferred, HUM electives should be from different clusters.

 English Elective: ENG 112  or ENG 113  

4 Lab Science Electives:  BIO 101 , BIO 102 , CHM 111 , CHM 112 , CHM 260  , GOL 105  , GOL 106  , PHY 201  , PHY 202 ,  PHY 241 , PHY 242  

5 Social and Behavioral Science Electives: PSY 200 PSY 215 PSY 216 PSY 230 SOC 200  

Computer Science/Engineerying Elective: EGR 121 , EGR 122 , CSC 205 , CSC 215  and other courses as approved by advisor for transfer purposes.
